Competition Rules

  • The League shall be called the Glan Aber Floodlit League, and entry is by invitation to a team by the League organiser.
  • Teams do not have to necessarily be made from players of one club, providing prior approval is given by the League organiser.
  • All matches will be played at Glan Aber Tennis Club on the dates specified in the fixture list. Any other dates must be agreed with the League organiser prior to the date in question.
  • Matches will start at7pm. If any pair are not ready to play at7.30pm they will forfeit 1 set, if they are not ready by7.45pm then they forfeit both sets of their first round rubber. If any player is not available by8.15pm then they forfeit all their rubbers.
  • Both teams must provide the match fee of £10, and one set of 3 new tennis balls for each  match.
  • Teams will consist of two men and two ladies. Each match will consist of a first round men’s doubles and ladies doubles, followed by a second round of two mixed doubles. The mixed doubles will be played as each teams equivalent pairs. (ie 1v1, 2v2)
  • All rubbers will consist of two standard tie-break sets (first to 7 point tie-break at six games all)
  • If a club enters more than one team, they must nominate team priority order at the start of the season.
  • Players may represent one ‘club’ only in the competition. If a club has more than one team in the league, each player may play up twice or down once during the season.
  • Where the team is not associated to a club, the players may only play for that team in the competition.
  • One point will be awarded for each set won, making a possible eight points available from each match.
  • In the event of any match being un-played or not completed due to bad weather, the remaining points available will be divided between the teams involved.
  • If any player is injured during play and is unable to continue, any succeeding sets shall be forfeited.
  • League position will be decided by the number of points won and where two teams have the same number of points, the one having won the more matches will occupy the higher position.
  • When all fixtures have been completed, if there is still a tie for position (after rule 14 is applied) then position will be decided with reference to the difference between games won and games lost for each team.
